Recovering files from notebook drive

This is for a friend. They have a crash of Windows (7) and were unable to do a system restore. They want to copy their pictures from the notebook drive to another computer. They put the drive into an external enclosure to do just that, but the other pc won't let them saying they need admin rights to the user files/folder. Is there a way around this?
