recovering data question

Got a harddrive with some data that needs recovering. Used NTFS getdataback. It recovered all of it but half of the pictures(main thing I'm after) show up just fine in the photo viewer but the other half say:

Windows pohto viewer can't open this picture because either photo viewer doesn't support this file format or you don't have the lastest updates to photo viewer.

Any ideas?

I would put that drive into an external case and access it with Explorer or some other good file manager so I could see what's there and take appropriate action.

As for opening photos, I would use Irfanview or Gimp.
