Nobody gets any thing until all absentee ballots are counted and this court crap is settled.

Well it looks like this will rest on Absentee then eh?

Military folk will likely vote for Bush but they do not make up all absentees...should be interesting.

Eitherway whoever loses is going to feel very pissed off - gore probabaly more than bush if he loses as he does have the popular vote.

Czar, I have read that somewhere they are looking into doing just that as a few other states were really close as well.

I say screw them both and put Colin Powell in there or Arnold Schwarzenegger. :D

Hmm dunno, only florida seems to be this messed up. Even buchanen went on record saying the ballots were confusing and that the tampa votes were probably not his:p

I heard on the news this morning that some judge in Florida issued a preliminary injunction preventing Palm Beach County from making their recount official (so they can't formally submit it to the state election committee for the final total until someone else decides what to do about the lawsuit the "disenfranchised" voters filed).

Zucchini, there is an artical at CNN that says the Buchanan ,on Larry King last night, said if someone voted for him then it should stand. This was after he said the votes should not go to him.

I posted a thread early last night about it.

Gore and bush should either flip a coin for presidency - best 2 out of 3, or arm wrestle for it...or see who can stand on a piece of wood longer, as in survivor.

Czar,

You might want to edit your title:

1. The difference is 327 votes.
2. Bush hasn't won yet, there are some absentee ballots to still be counted.

well ... for the good of our country I think its right that the same person that was originally ahead is still ahead in recount ... there would be no end to the problems caused by it if it had turned out differently ... now we just have to wait for the absentee ballots and then we will know.

As I've said before, this reminds me of the Russia vs. USA basketball game at the olympics a while ago. The democrats will keep working until they get what they want.

It appears to me that the Democratss are just trying to see that everyone's vote gets properly counted.

If the tables were turned and so much was at stake, over such a tiny difference in votes, would the Republicans do the same thing? I sure hope they too would.

With the statistical margins for the accuracy of the vote count (different counts get different numbers), this is basically a dead-even split. The number of thrown out ballots is many times greater than the difference between Bush and Gore. And Oregon is still undecided too?

Castro's solution to the situation is for the US to have a new election. He will send in volunteers to monitor the election. Isn't it funny that we are being told that? All this because the democrats and their candidate still have not been able to get rid of their suckers.

The absentee ballots were approximately 2,300 in 1996. Of those, 54% went to Dole in an election where he pulled much less statewide. Now that we've had another 4 years of Clit-on/Bore, the percentages will likely go more in favor of the Republicans since there are few in the military who are pleased with the Democrats right now.

No, the Democrats are trying everything in the book to make the election go their way. From one recount, we've had two in many counties (as insurance against any irregularity), and now Gore's camp is requesting a hand count. I would rather trust a machine than a potentially biased or an almost certainly tired election worker.

No one has yet mentioned the 68,000 ballots they discovered from a predominently Republican district in New Mexico which could change the results in both the Presidency and the Senate race. A coworker heard that on the radio yesterday, and I heard mention of it on TV last night, though the report was only very, very brief without mention of the specifics.

Hmmmmm, problem in new Mexico that hasn't been fully reported to the news yet. What will happen in Wisconsin and Iowa?????? When all the pieces fit together, will Bush need Florida?

Andrew,

I agree with much of your post. There were 2,300 overseas absentee ballots in 1996, and 54% of them went to Dole. So, you are right, one would expect that if the ballots come from the same type of voters, that even more than 54% would go for Bush in this election.

However, I've read twice that there are some 6,000 Floridians living in Israel, and that there were efforts made to have them vote absentee. I think a large portion of this Jewish vote would go for Gore/Lieberman. It remains to be seen just how many actually requested absentee ballots, and then how many returned them.

I'd trust a machine more than a hand count too. But, look what happened when they redid the machine count. More votes for both. One explanation is that a small portion of punches didn't get completely pushed out, and weren't read the first time, but did get read the second time. Are there more of these uncounted punches? A sample hand count might find out.

Finally, if there is a problem in New Mexico, that should be adressed too. But perhaps there isn't as much interest in New Mexico, with only five electoral votes at stake.

As long as I don't have to listen to how stupid Floridians, old people, women, black people, Cuban people, Democrats, etc are anymore, I'll be happy.

You know, this is a real phenomena and 20, 30, 40 years from now, this will be something we remember collectively... kind of like, "Where were you when the Shuttle exploded?"

This is really going to have an affect on the younger generation, too. Imagine if this was the first election you really paid attention to? The cohort effect for the 20 and under crowd should be interesting. As a group, what are they going to think of the system?

Maybe, just maybe, change will come from this.
