Recordnow: "losing" hd space

I attempted to copy a data dvd using Sonic's dvd-burning program Recordnow.

As I have one dvd drive, the software saves the contents of the dvd to be copied on the harddrive before proceeding to burn.

The software stalled in the process and my free hd space reduced by 4.36 gb. My OS is Windows XP Home.

I tried rebooting/shutting down my PC, searching for a file/folder in Windows XP, looked at the recordnow program directory, chkdsk bu I can't recover the "lost" space.

The weird thing is that this same problem occured the last time I attempted a dvd copy using Recordnow (I just ignored it back then).

I would appreciate any tips or suggestions (preferably, not having to format).

Do you have Explorer set to view hidden/system files?

I suspect perhaps a Temp file with the incompleted burn is hanging around someplace. Perhaps in the Temp folder located in local setting, although since im not familar with this procduct it may create a folder someplace for storage of these temp files. Perhaps in the Document and Setting tree someplace.

Yes, I made sure to check those options when I conducted my search.

I'll take a closer look at my temp folders, and my documents. But if a large file were to exist there, would not I have uncovered it in my Windows XP search (I did a search for files "recently modified" on that day and a seperate search for all files and folders > 1mb)?

Don't use the ghey "search" function, it suxors in WinXP. Open Windows Explorer:

TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>check USE WINDOWS CLASSIC FOLDERS

Go to the VIEW TAB:

- check SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
- uncheck the ultra stupid HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES
- uncheck the HIDE PROTECTED OPERATING SYSTEM FILES

Click on the APPLY TO ALL FOLDERS BUTTON above, click APPLY and OK to exit.

Manually browse to C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\USER PROFILE NAME\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMP and delete ALL the files in there.

Save a lot of effort, download and install Ccleaner and in the custom folders section add the above temp folder.

Problem solved.

In case anyone is interested:

I downloaded microsoft's diruse, setup a search query, and was able to locate the files in an obscure "application data" subdirectory and succesfully uncovered 13 gb
