Recording with SageTV

I have DishTV Dual TV box. Meaning that I do not have a separate box for this room, there is a shared box between two TVs.

So to get my Dish channels, I have to tune to broadcast channel 65 and use my Dish remote to change the channel.

So SageTV only recognizes one TV with a title of "No Data."

I can't figure out how to record on the fly. I know I can schedule recordings, but my remote is MIA right now and is there any built in option to record on the fly with SageTV?

If not, is there a better program than SageTV? MythTV perhaps?

Since your remote worked for a box that's in another room, I assume it's an RF type remote. I've never seen a device that connects to a computer that will easily emulate an RF remote thus your software won't be able to control the Dish box in the other room. Does your Dish box have an IR remote control option? If so you have a chance of controlling it from your computer.

I don't care about recording it with my TV Tuner Remote.

I just want to record on the fly. I don't want to schedule recordings, if I see something interesting (like a skit or something) and I want to record it, how do I do it? I can reverse and pause, but where is the record button? :(

From the EPG, go to program info and press record Link

Not sure if thats the same version as yours, but it should be similar. Also, IIRC, CTRL + Y is the keyboard shortcut.

MrCodeDude,

I am pretty sure that Sage is always recording when you are watching TV, that is how it is able to backup or pause live tv and there is no real "record button" when watching tv using the EPG because it is already doing it. When I watch something even if for just a few mins, I can goto the storage folder I have setup for Sage and see a file created of what I was just watching. Does yours not do that?
