Recording VHS - computer

Hello,

Need some help to find a video card. I want to be able to connect my VCR to the computer. I'd like for the card to encode/record into an Mpeg-2 format which I can play with w. media player.

Anybody know a card with good value for money?

Thanks.

Thanks... I got some ideas from there.

Although, while I'm at it, I might as well ask another question. I'm planning to use the card not for videoediting at all - so rendering and that kind of capabilities is not important. What I want to do is to record shorter "clips" (5-10 minutes) from the VHS to my PC and then I want to be able to e-mail these (and also put on web-page for download), so I would like to be able to have small files, of course with lower quality as result. It there one card that is better than another for this or doesn't it matter. Will I be able to choose from many different video qualities already when I record? or should I use some sort of software to convert/compress it to lower quality? which software in that case?

And one more question - I looked at a friends Pinnacle SatTV card but the output from this card was in some format which is unknown to me and we couldn't play it in the W media player either. The file ending was .trp. What is this file format? Is it possible to convert or would it be possible to maybe record from VHS to computer and use another software so the fileformat is different?

hmm.. that was alot of questions, but if you have an answer or two I'd be really grateful.. thanks.

Go with the Dazzle DVCII... you should be able to find it for $200 to $220 online. This card does realtime Mpeg 1/2 compression and comes with templates for all sorts of capture formats.. i.e. DVD, VCD, SVCD, Web, Email.
