how do I record sounds on the computer? for example, I'm watching "outside providence" on my computer and the dad calls his son "dildo" : "come here, dildo!" it's just so funny I have to record the sound clip and send it to someone :)

there is a sound recorder that usually comes with windows. If it's not installed go you your control panel and add/remove programs and it should be under the windows programs. Hope that helps.

I tried that, sound recorder would only record through the mic, it won't record anything that's playing through the computer's speakers.

so I'm still in need of help.

Umm, you have to choose the source to be recorded. Open your volume control and choose Properties->Recording and pick the appropriate source.

Forget the Windows "sound recorder," it will only allow you to record for a limited time (I think 60 seconds).

I use MusicMatch to record live streams from the net. When running MM, under settings set the "source" to your sound cards "input." You will also need to buy (Radio Shack) a 1/8 stereo phono plug (Male/Male). From the sound card, run the output to the input. As an option, get a Y-adapter for your output lead (1 male/2 female).

NOTE: In order to do this, you need a Full-Duplex sound card (like the Sound Blaster LIVE!)

--- EDIT ---

Make sure it's to the "input" lead, NOT the "microphone" in lead.
