Recording Sound Streams...

I know someone who get's his music by recording sound streams with some bundled creative software. He listens to internet radio all day/uses singingfish. Is this legal? I mean sure it's not illegal to record AM/FM radio...isn't this the same thing?

Its illegal if its music that you would ordinarily have to buy. Meaning any mainstream music.

Where as with radio like ProtonRadio, which is all I listen to online, they don't mind because its all original programming and music, then its perfectly legal.

It's probably fine. IIRC, taping from AM/FM is fine because it's at a significantly lower sound quality than a CD/LP. I would imagine the stream is 128k or less, so it should be safe under the same provisions.

That's good since singingfish streams are usually of low quality.

Thanks for the prompt responses.
