The sounds on my Roland (music) keyboard really aren't very numerous, and I can't find what I'm looking for on it. Is there a way I could take something I recorded into my computer via this keyboard and change it to a different, downloaded sound, perhaps? Where would I find such sounds?

You could use the soundbank samples on your sound card. For example, the SB Live/Audigy use SoundFont 2, the Santa Cruz uses DLS (downloadable sounds), etc. There are places on the net to download Soundfonts and DLS, some are free. After you record a MIDI file you can apply the voices from the soundbank. Another alternative is to use a software synthesizer like Gigasampler. It costs some $$ but it's very realistic sounding.

Makes sense, but how do you do it?

what kind of roland do you have?

EM-10. Maybe I'm just too used to using acoustic, "real" instruments, lol, but this thing isn't really all that great sound-wise if you ask me. But as I say, I don't really have experience with electronic instruments.

What sound card do you have? I think the SB software manages the SoundFonts; I'm not sure since I haven't owned a Creative soundcard in a while. Basically you load a library into the soundcard's memory and whenever you play a MIDI file it uses those samples. Here's a link I found for soundfonts. Not sure about DLS though.

ah. i have a roland juno-106 and sh-09. i like them a lot

Yeah, roland makes some good stuff from what I hear, and this keyboard is good for what it is. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for and I didn't have much cash....so in other words...what it is isn't much.

What sound card do you have?
SB 512.
