recording off MSNBC??

I have a school project where I need to find and present a news story from 5 media types (tv news, newspaper, radio, internet, magazine <- not really essential). I was planning using the Mars rover landing trouble story. Here are my problems:

I can't listen to the audio file on NPR.org because it downloads as some .smil file.
I can't "save target as" from the msnbc website.

How can I record/present these two?

Use a browser other than IE and try again.

If that doesn't work I used to know of some streamcaching software, but I can't remember the details. Maybe I'll remember it.

I downloaded the wm recorder demo but it's very buggy, is there anything else?
