I figured this would be the best place to ask about such a thing. :)

I want to add some cameras to strategic places in my car, to augment a data logging routine that I've been doing.

What would be the best way to do this? The dashboard view camera obviously doesn't have to be high quality or anything, but it would be nice if the view of the road ahead was semi decent. Good audio would be nice as well. I would also like a camera on the 3rd party instrumentation and perhaps even my feet.

Are those 4 channel USB DVRs any good? If not, what would you recommend instead?

I would probably only ever want to record an hour at a time at the most.

Thanks. :)

How much are you looking to spend? I mean you could get like 3 Flip Mino/Ultra HD cameras and call it a day. Should be ~$100 or less ea.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Optimally, I would like to get something setup on the cheap of course. But with the option to upgrade individual cameras later.

So like maybe four 640x480 cams at first, just so I can get it setup.. then upgrade the view of the road to a 780p or 1080i camera at some point?

Like I said, I just don't know how good the four channel USB DVRs are. They're very cheap, so probably pretty crappy. Or could I just get a USB hub for my netbook and use a capture program?

Would I be better off building a carputer and using one of the 4 or 8 channel PCI capture cards?

Possibly one mounted on the back of the rear-view mirror, and one mounted into the passenger side tweeter pod (preferably at the base of the A-pillar) for your protection.
