recording a DVD to vcr

Ihave an apex dvd player,sometimes I want to copy rented dvd's I use adio out & video out to my vcr audio in & video in , as soon as I push record the dvd stops playing.
Am I doing something wrong or is this the way dvd's are , any work around?

There's manufacturer cooperation with anti-piracy with DVDs. Even if you got it working, the picture might be distorted. I think you'll have better luck buying a black box and taping PPV movies.

Imagine how many people would be copying dvds to vhs if there wern't protections or buying DVD burners and archiving rented DVDs.

yeah theres some kind of smart macrovision build in. have u tried pressing record first, and then play the dvd?

you have to hack your dvd player to disable macrovision and other protections that your dvd player might have.

If you have an older vcr around that will probably be able to record the dvd. I have a vcr that's a few years old and it records just fine from my dvd player.

The easiest way to do it is probably to buy a "video stabilizer" off of ebay. This box will sit between your DVD player and your VCR. It disables Macrovision, so you will be able to make backup copies of any DVDs you own to VHS . One of my friends got one of these off of ebay for his TV/VCR combo that wouldn't even play DVDs because of Macrovision, and it worked flawlessly. I beleve he got it for around $25 - $30.

There may also be hacks for your DVD player, but the video stabilizer will work if there aren't.
