Let's make it easy. Everybody record your income and various taxes paid for this year. I assume most save these but for posterity and accuracy save them or at least record the big ones. I also know that most don't have all their taxes in order, I sure as hell don't.

At the end of next year you will be able to compare 2008 vs 2009 as it pertains to you. You don't have to post income or taxes paid. All you have to do is record it and compare to next year. That should bring some intellectual honesty.

Or start one in OT.

This one is not needed here.

I can't wait to do my taxes.

However, the comparison won't work for me. I got married and had a child in 2008.

Yeah, that's been my problem over the years - kids, house, etc - no 2 years were apples to apples. This year however the only real change should be the increase in income from both of us. So I've been paying more and more net taxes each year even with the tax-cuts and such.

Yeah, any change of status makes it incomparable. But it's good for compass comparison as your changes were for 2008 and not 2009.

Mine won't work either. Got a new job, signing bonus, relocation + gross up so the numbers are way skewed...
