Record what you hear software.

So Im trying to record some audio that I've got playing on my computer right. I downloaded this program called audacity thats supposed to do a pretty good job. The problem is I export the recording as a .mp3 file and play it back. Its all garbled. Sounds like a lot of interference going on. This is the 2nd program I've tried and Ive tinkered with the settings quite a bit. Anyone have any idea why I would have interference/noise going on? What can I do to achieve the same quality as what I am hearing?

I have Audacity installed, but have not messed with it yet, so I probably can't be of much help. But, I'm curious what the sound format is of the source file on your computer? Not that I would know much about it, but it might also help to know what kind of sound card that you are using?

Not sure if this would help, but make sure to mute sources that you aren't using like your microphone or line-in.

I assume you are trying to record stuff you are streaming of the net, becasue there are better ways to record pretty much anything else. (Unless you are playing an instrument with a pick-up which is plugged into your sound card.)
For recording streamed stuff I have used Ariel Sound Recorder save it as mp3, wav, whatever. Works very well. I think there is a full featured 30 day trial.

Thanks mullet, yes thats what Im doing. I'll give that a try and report back with my findings.

I tried the "What U Hear" and it worked fine, not garbled or anything at all.
Maybe try WAV/mp3 instead of "What U Hear" in Audacity.
