Hello everyone, I have been trying to work this out for so long now, it's starting to get on my nerves.

I often record TV shows from my set top box using VLC however the resulting file is always 4:3. How can I save the video stream as 16:9 instead?

Once I open the file to watch it, I can manually change it to 16:9 using VLC but I need the actual file to be 16:9.

Any help would be great,
Thank You.

Do you have to have a VLC player window open to record (forgive me, ive never done recording with VLC before)... if so, have you tried to pre crop the window to 16:9?

When recording video, I can select 'Play Locally' which allows me to watch what is currently being recorded. This is in 16:9. However, when the recording has finished, the resulting file is still 4:3 and everything is squashed.

Hmm, this is very strange... why are you using VLC to record the shows in the first place? Why not use GB-PVR or Media Center?
