LIMBAUGH SIGNS THROUGH 2016; $400 MILLION DEAL SHATTERS BROADCAST RECORDS

Wed Jul 02 2008 09:02:18 ET
**Exclusive**

The American broadcast industry is rocked, realigned and blasted into a new orbit, yet again, by Rush Limbaugh, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

In what is being described as an unprecedented radio contract, Limbaugh will keep his syndicated show on-the-air and e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e through 2016 with CLEAR CHANNEL and PREMIERE RADIO.

Already host of the most lucrative hours since radio's inception, Limbaugh's total package is valued north of $400 million, according to media insiders.

The NEW YORK TIMES will claim this weekend that Limbaugh, marking 20 years this summer as a national host, has secured a 9-figure signing bonus for the new deal, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE.

MORE

In its controversial profile, the TIMES reports that Limbaugh is buying a new G550 jet and is making an estimated $38 million a year.

While newspapers and traditional broadcast media are experiencing declining revenues, Limbaugh's golden microphone has turned diamond-laced:

Earnings now pace him ahead of the annual salaries for network news anchors: Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer ? combined!

MORE

The deal represents a stunning triumph over the establishment by an outsider who connected with and captured the spirit of the nations heartland.

Developing...

Hmmm, looks like Rush is laughing all the way to the bank.

The more talk of 'fairness doctrine' and other far-far-left liberal nonsense, the fatter his pockets get.

Yowser, that's a lot of money, probably enough to keep his drug supply running strong ;)

I can't really stand to listen to him more than once in a long while, but that's the free market for ya, obviously there's millions who do.

You say this as if it dignifies his show. Some of the most wealthy musical artists have been shitty pop singers.

No, I'm saying it purely as an observation. Rush feeds off the hate of the far-far left and cashes it in.

I personally don't listen to Rush and haven't heard more than brief snippets of his monologues in many years.

Rush feeds off the hate that the far right has for everyone else, and will lie and distort facts to have his zombies believe anything he says.

Maybe. Maybe not. If it was a prominent (D) in that position I'm sure that's how he'd portray them on his 'show'. Why should I bother with minor things like facts and details if Rush gets rich speaking in half-truths and innuendos?

I don't think he feeds off the HATE of the far left. I think he just panders to the very right of the political spectrum. And the far right that we are talking about are the ones that are scared to death by everything and will listen to any banter just to make themselves feel better.

His headlines are the same as Fox news and other more conservative news outlets, he just puts a 'tougher' spin on it.

But this is the beauty of America. You can make money doing ANYTHING. If a network thinks he's worth 400 mil then more power to him.

First things first Pabs....Please don't bold an entire article again. That is just annoying and hard on the eyes.

Secondly, as Excelsior pointed out, getting paid doesn't mean that you are any good. It just means that you are able to manipulate/pacify enough people to make sponsors think that they can use you like you use your audience to make bank.

Hell, if being paid the most meant that you were the best in every category, a lot of CEOs that have been fired because they blew dog would still have their jobs instead of just their golden parachutes.

Rush is a living monument to the triumph of lack of logic and narcissism. As he daily proves he is the smartest man in the room by being the only man in the room.

Occasionally, in moments of self masochism and boredom, I listen to the idiot, within moments I find logical holes one can drive trucks through, but bashing my car radio
with rocks does nothing to deter Rush.

But it still is valuable forum fodder and pure comedy gold, because when some ditto head comes to P&N and posts Limbaugh no logic assertions from today's Limbaugh show, they inevitably get debunked, and go away wondering why Rush can get away with it and they can't. Proving once again, that Rush is the smartest man in the room.

Next time he says something insanely idiotic and conservatives try to downplay his significance, someone can just post this link. The triumph of arrogant, feel-good narcissism over reason and logic is what mainstream conservatism is all about.

It's a shame that the AM Radio spectrum isn't more fair and balanced. It's all hate-wing conservobots like Limbaugh and Hannity. Where's the diversity in opinion?

It's a free market. Folks obviously have little to zero interest in hearing left-wing haters on their radios. If the demand were there, they would be too.

The two most abundant things in the universe are Hydrogen and stupidity.

~ Harlan Ellison

And Limbaugh's audience is not hydrogen.

If this forum is any example, and I realize it's merely anecdotal, I really think there is a demand for diverse opinion. Hell, I listen to Hannity, Limbaugh, Larry Elder, Al Rantel, etc., etc. Not because I agree with them, far from it, however I enjoy listening to diverging opinion. Probably the same reason I'm around here quite a bit...
