So why am I posting about CPU overclocking records on the motherboards forum, you ask? Well, because I'm trying to understand how it was possible on that particular motherboard.

Here's the news link
Coolaler gets a new record on MSI Eclipse SLI
...
The "OC king" from China, Coolaler broke a new record with Core i7 975 and MSI's Eclipse SLI. The Core i7 was overclocked to 5709.73MHz which is a 71.29 percent overclock.
...

I've tried a few different MSI Eclipse SLI boards with 920 and 965 CPUs and I have to say that my results are not anywhere close. How the heck is he getting such high clocks on one of those boards? Does the board respond so much better with D0 stepping chips? Anyone know?

What is an 'average' overclock of i7 using sub-zero cooling?

Basically he works for MSI, the CPU is Cherry picked as are all things that are used in that setup. And the LN2 on the CPU helps a little.
That is a marketing ploy to sell more MSI boards witch are not really good over clocking boards.
