Canada just announced another $200M for Afghanistan reconstruction.

I wonder if building is cheaper there (e.g. lower wages, lower prices on raw materials, less advanced structures needed) or higher (e.g. have to import all of the goods/workers, security concerns, etc.)

Are they hiring Canadians or Afganistanians? Most likely if it's the Afgan's, the wages will be lower and then they can build more buildings.

It doesn't look like Afganistan has a whole lot of natural resources that can be used as building supplies. A lot of stuff is probably being shipped it.

But then, their houses aren't made of wood, they don't have central heat, thay don't need a 100 light bulbs in one room, jsu plain basic housing...

I bet they can find almost all the material in Afghanistan itself...

It would certainly cost more if you have to continuously rebuild things that suicide bombers keep blowing up.
