reconstructed/salvage title?

my car is salvaged. 79 lincoln, got hit by an RV and just the rear fender is bent in. The insurance just didnt find it worth fixing obviously. Im hoping someone will buy it off me.

Yep, the right one is a bargain. But you have to look it over top to bottom. Make sure there's no frame damage, airbags are ok, etc.....

As long as you make sure there's no serious damage (like Cardiac said, frame, airbags, etc), then sometimes you can get a stellar deal.

Personally, I buy cars to use until the wheels fall off, so resale value isn't really important to me. That's the only real downside if there's no other major damage.

I had a car once with a salvage title and it was ok but it was a mutt of a car. It had parts off of all other sorts of cars to make it run. It was a 1970 Cutlass convertible with a chevy rearend and was 4 different shades of blue before I had it painted babysh1t blue and drove it for a couple years. Cool car.

It all depends. My buddy had a Ford Ranger (95 or 97, IIRC) with a salvage title that had basically been completely reconstructed, and he drove it for four years with no problems before selling to a co-worker, who still hasn't had any problems.
He got it for $5k, which was way below book at the time.

Would you ever purchase a vehicle with a reconstructed or salvage title?

Someday, if I ever decide to build an autoX/muddin'/mileage attack car from the ground up, I may end up with a car with a bad title. I figure with as much as I am going to be pulling and dropping in, I'd be killing the resale value anyway

My mustang has one and it doesn't really bother me. Probably be a bit harder to sell but I got a good deal on it and its a hard to find version so that should help.
