Reconnecting with old high school friends

I recently met up two old high school friends of mine, Matt and Steve. We met because we were all members of Physics & Astronomy and Internet Club, and lost touch soon after graduating from high school.

I got bored at work and started googling the names of old school friends (inspired by a thread here on ATOT)... I found Lael, another P&A/Internet club member. He was the president of the Internet club, and I was the vice president. He was also on my Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Design team, and is about to begin grad school at MIT. We exchanged e-mails for the first time since 1998, and he passed on my info to Matt, who e-mailed me because he lives in LA... and it turns out he and another SAE team member of ours, Steve (currently working on his PhD in computer science) live TWO BLOCKS AWAY!

We met up last night for a U.S. Air Force band musical (sponsored by Steve's company), Pink's, and to test out their new sound system with the extended versions of LOTR Fellowship and TT (amazing surround sound system... during fight scenes, you can literally hear the arrows whizzing by your head). I'm thrilled I found them, and am happy to reconnect with my geek roots. It's nice being around people I feel completely comfortable with... who speak geek in person, and say things like "I'm uber tired". Heh.

Here's a picture Steve found of us... it's Steve, me, Lael and Joe Sulkin.

Steve is 17 in that picture... I'm 15, Matt is 14, and Joe is 16. Ahhh, memories. :)

Does anyone else have any stories of meeting up with long-lost high school friends?

I liked about 5 people in my graduating class. I kinda keep in touch with them but for the rest of them....I don't care if they're living or dead.

That's what I've been saying ALL ALONG.... :D I feel so much happier when I'm around them than I ever did around the breakdancers...

That's beacuse the art of breakdancing has degerated into an ego stroking contest.

the only people i cared for in hs are friends i hang out with frequently.
except my bestfriend--our schedules conflict.

edit: you've come a long way from that dorky picture. but i guess the same could be said for most of us.

It was not a case of people not liking me. I transferred during my sophmore year and after 2 years I left the town. There are a few people I have spoken with, but that has been on a limited basis.

I ended up working for the same company as one of my best friends from high school. He saw my nametag on my cubicle one day and remembered me. Through him I have been in touch with a bunch of my other friends from the high school days.

Unlike high school I do keep up with a lot of my college buddies.

ill walk into a grocery store and run into one every once in awhile, and go through the whole mechanical conversation. "yeah, whats new? going to school? working? yeah, ill get ahold of you, we'll do something. blah blah".

the friends i had in high school were my friends from my childhood days. been best friends with the same 5 guys for 12-13 years. some of them have moved away (UCLA, Army), but i still keep in contact with all of them on a almost day-to-day basis.

What is the "Internet" club all about? Since this was 4-5 years ago, you guys discussed your IRC adventures?

Want a cookie?

note: I don't really mean to be rude, I'm just being an equal opportunity offender... People here would have replied with a "want a cookie?" ten seconds after the post was made - if the original poster was male.. My "want a cookie" positing does not come with any ill feelings but is an attempt for sexual equality...
