I have a customer whom wants the best setup possible for Audio Video Editing on his new system. He has already settled on a P4 2.2 with 1Gb RD, but, asked my recommondations for a video card & software. The system will also have Win XP Pro. I'm not that sure of the best amatuer/pro choices as far as sound & video editing goes, and was hoping some of you in the video forum here on A/T may have an idea.............my thought s (after asking) were a Matrox Video Card because he said 2D was his greatest concern, now, what sound card????? Santa Cruz????? Also, what software???? He mentioned Pinnacle Systems 7.0 and I looked it over............it's about $100, but, is this a good suite?????? IMHO $100 isn't much to spend on software if you are planning on eventually making a livelyhood doing this as this person said..................what are some alternatives?????

Premiere (sp?) and After Effects from adobe. He might want to get a dual system for video editing. He needs tons of free hard drive space too.

Got the H.D. space taken care of, that's why I left that out.................we're going with two of the 120GB W.D. "special edition" JB's!:) I figured Adobe had to have something to offer in this arena.......................I know of and have used Photshop, but, was unsure of Adobe's prowess in audio/video...............;) Any advice on a Video/Sound card or other things I may be neglecting to think of?????

Go with a sound blaster EX platinum, and maybe a DUAL monitor card like a matrox g550(if no gaming is involved), or a GEFORCE 4600 TI(if gaming is involed) or even a ATI 8500 dual monitor. Dual monitor is great cause of the extra real estate you have to work with, especially timelines, and previews, and editing.

Well.........the one prerequisit I failed to mention, the video card, whichever is ultimately decided upon must of course have S video......... (video in/out) for connection to TV/VCR............

ATI radeon 8500DV All-In-Wonder all the way!

this card has all the AV inputs/outputs (both rca and svideo) + firewire + tv tuner + RF remote + dual monitor + tv out and so much more.. very comprehensive and extremely powerful for both 2D and 3D. a bit pricey, about $300 though..

This is exactly the card I was looking at this AM to possibly use..............this or the Matrox, but, I don't see a Matrox with the AV input/output..........He'll love this price though...................LOL!;)

If this guy wants to make this his livelyhood (or at the very least a regular hobby) a $100 solution isn't gonna work. Does he want to be able to work with analog video, or DV, or both?

*blatant self-advertising* If you want a deal, on a great editing solution go Here.

matrox has the g450 eTV which is a tv tuner + video card + av input/output but it is outperformed by the aiw.

too bad i had to sell my 7500 AIW .. it was a beautiful card but I had no use for half the features.. so went ahead and sold it. buy it only if you're planning to use most of the features..

Well, the guy is a soon to be retirie (sp?) and has basic knowledge into what he wants to do from what he has told me. He plans on investing whatever it takes to do this and wants to have it all setup as he is officially retired as of May 1st. He wants to be able to work with both. I'll pass on the information on your card, and am in fact printing the thread as we speak. How old is this card???? I think the problem will be that he is pretty "picky" and wants the best stuff (within reason he said), but, I'm not sure he would go for used stuff unless there was a good portion of the warranty still available and any problems would not cause a problem if the card were to "go south.;)".
