KDS VS-195 (19") which is a year or two out of warranty. What would be the most cost effective way to fix it?
I do not know squat about monitors and what components typically fail, so all I can say is that it does not turn on.

Thx!

If it doesn't turn on it should be a not too expensive fix. Just call around to repair places around your house. That's what I did a few years back, most wanted $75 to check out it which would go towards the repair fee... I found one that wanted $40 and all that was wrong with mine was the power button and it cost me $40 total. Monitors are not worth repairing if the tube goes bad... but that does not sound like that.

Ya but I dont know how :) Usually if it just gives out and wont turn on thats not a tube problem. If it was the tube the monitor would try to power on just youd get no image (Most the time). If nothing what so over happens when you hit the power button (No LED lights up etc..) its more likely a power issue inside the monitor and not the tube.

Are you sure it is out of warranty? It carries a 3 year warrantly. I thought they where introduced in 2001. I may be wrong, but I would check on the back, it tells you the date the monitor was built, and if you can find your receipt, then the warranty is from the date of the receipt, rather then the date on the back of your monitor.

Anyhow, I would check into it.

If it's out of warranty I would throw it in a dumpster and get a new one. They are so inexpensive that repairing them is a wate of money.

Of course first check to see that the power plug is firmly pushed in...

i wouldn't bother repairing a kds. anyways, if you don't know anything at all about monitors under no circumstances are you to open the monitor casing. the tube can hold its charge for years after you unplug it. something along the lines of 20,000 volts. it won't hurt you, just kill you

Unless you can get a local shop to look it over rather inexpensively, the best bet is generally just to buy a new monitor. Prices have fallen dramatically over the last 4-5 years. I personally think that the Samsungs are one of the better values.

Be sure, of course, to try a different monitor in its place, just to be certain....

It maybe just the fuse blowing up, which is an easy fix. If not, then just buy a new one. For the $75-100 that some shops ask just to look at it, you can easily buy a 17 inch monitor. Add like $50 and you have a brand new 19 incher.

Well as long as you don't try to get an RMA you'll be fine.

<--- currently WAITING ON A FREAKING @!#$#@$ MONITOR YOU BASTARDS

My absolutely perfect Avitron AV-195TF died about 3 weeks ago(screen got really really small and bright, then, poof, nothing, no crt at all)... i call up for an RMA, sure, we'll sent one out for you. 1 week later, i get this absolutely HORRIBLE POS monitor that is INTOLERABLY blurry in the middle of the screen, and it has scratches on the screen, etc. I am pissed. I had to call up and RMA THIS RMA! WTF? if you send out a product to a customer, at least check if its $%$## working right. they STILL haven't shipped the RMA for this one yet. I am NEVER buying a KDS product again.
