do you really miss that 200kps? is this only for a small home network 1-6 boxes or bigger. Because if it is smaller then your bottleneck is not from your connection but from the other servers around the world.
this site has a registry edit that increases the buffer size for TCP/IP. It really works; upon a fresh install of Win98, I usually see speeds top out at 150K/sec. After this tweak, I can get 200-250K/sec.

HOLY HELL that was an improvement! I had been a little disappointed with my cable modem, as the best I could usually expect was ~50kb/s (rarely 100 if a top site like microsoftie)
Now I get ~350 kb/s from MP3.com where I had been getting ~40kb/s before! BADA$$!!!!!!
