Recommended system requirements for Win2000

Reason I ask is because I just installed Win2000 on my mom's computer. It seems to be running REALLY slow, and the hard disk is working way too hard. I'm guessing that I just need more RAM, so I bought a stick of 128mb pc100.

Specs on mom's compaq here

Only change is I installed a network card and added 32mb of RAM a while back.

mskalak, it's probably because of the lack of memory, like you said. 96 MB of memory isn't nearly enough to get the best performance from Windows 2000, even if you're not running any memory-intensive applications. 256 MB is the minimum recommended memory, IMO.

Also, did you upgrade the existing operating system or install Windows 2000 completely from scratch? If you did the upgrade, it probably kept a lot of junk software and junk Registry settings from the previous operating system. Doing an install from scratch is always the best way, even if you're using an upgrade install CD.
