Hello all,

I recently downloaded Windows 2008 Server as part of the Dreamspark student thingy and have modified it to run more Vista like without the bloat and instability.

I intend this to be a workstation and want to find/use utlities & software packages that are compatible with it.

I want things like:

Anti-Virus
CD/DVD Burn
Backup
Text Editors
Any thing else that makes sense

But I want to know that it is compatible with 2008 server before installing it.

Has anyone come across a place where I can find a list of such software?
Does anyone have recommendations?

Thanks.

[EDIT]I have to say I am very happy with it so far. I am going to try some games at some point, but I want to have it backed up first.[\EDIT]

Anything that runs on Vista should run on Server 2008 as well, of course there is always exceptions.

Anything that runs on Vista should be ABLE to run. However, lots of software is license limited to workstation vs server so that often causes issues...

Most stuff will run. If this is anything like Server 2003, although everything can run, some things won't run; a decent bit of software specifies the OS it can run on and even though it can in theory run on 2003 it simply will not install and say it's incompatible. Pretty annoying, considering server 2003 is my home OS on one of our PCs :) In some cases you can modify files for a particular application so that it ignores the OS it's installing to.
