Looking at preordering BF3, and curious as to where people have good luck. Would like to get the digital download, and not have a disc shipped to me. Would Amazon.com be the best bet , or are there other places that are recommended for preorder games?

For BF3 I'd suggest doing the Origin trick to get it. Assuming you have an Origin account already, make another one and the set the birthday for 2 days after the day you made the account. 2 days later, you'll receive a birthday coupon from Origin for that new account, the coupon is 25% off a purchase. You can use this coupon on your real Origin account, thus you get BF3 for $44.99. This is the best deal you can get on BF3 so far and since BF3 requires Origin, installing it is a mute point anyways.

As for pre orders in general. I try and stick with Steam for my PC game needs nowadays. But I'll pre order from another digital vendor if it is a steamworks title if the price is cheaper. For physical copies, I've always liked Amazon.

I just look around for the best deal.

Amazon
Steam
Direct2Drive
Gamer's Gate

Those are the four I visit. I guess you can add Origin for BF3.

Steam wont be selling BF3. The 2 most reputable digital sources seem to be Direct2Drive and Impulse. If you want you can use the birthday trick KaOTiK mentioned with origin, but personally I couldn't be bothered to make another Origin account.

Direct2Drive $45.86 with code CHEAPASS15.

There are also a few sites selling cheap origin keys for $20~ but personally I wouldn't trust them.
