Recommended Memory for GA-EP45-UD3R?

Hi Folks,

I am putting a build together for a GA-EP45-UD3R and it seems like a lot of folks are having problems with RAM and getting it to run properly at 1066. I like building my rigs but am not a pro by any means and frankly the idea of experimenting ram timings to get the system to run correctly really intimidates me. Are there any good-quality RAM for a reasonable price that is plug-n-play in this board? Seems like the GSkill RAM is amongst the worst.

Thanks!

If you need to run 1066, I'd suggest the G.Skill F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI (1.8-1.9v).
One issue with the G.Skill memory rated for 1066 is that it requires more voltage than the higher clocked 1100.

Note: The more voltage required (over the JEDEC standard), to run at a rated speed, the lower the memory quality.

I have some Crucial Ballistix already... but I didn't plan on upgrading for a while, that is the board I plan on getting though, got my fingers crossed, sorry i can't tell you if it works or not yet though.

Looking at memory pricing it seems the 800 is a bit cheaper - do I need to put 1066 in this board or can I just go with the 800? Will there be a perceptible loss in performance doing things like working with pictures in Photoshop and playing an old-school game like U;ltima Online?

Thanks!

If you don't like tinkering in the BIOS or OCing, you don't need to be buying a UD3R, & certainly shouldn't be buying DDR2-1066.

Get JEDEC approved RAM.
IOW, 1.8v, & nothing higher than DDR2-800.

There is no benefit for you in buying overclocking memory when you don't even want to mess with it :(

I like it because it seems to be the most stable and reliable board around. I may decide to explore overclocking, but for now stability and reliability are tops on my list.

Thanks for the head's up on the 800, any in particular you'd recommend?

Thanks!

4GB G.Skill PI Black DDR800:

Good timings, 1.8V, inexpensive. You may find cheaper deals with other manufacturers after rebates, etc., but I've found these sticks to be solid and G.Skill is pretty well-respected. They may not overclock that well if you do decide to dabble, but depending on your CPU you will probably never need to push them past spec anyway.

Tried that memory on my UD3R and couldn't get her to boot. My DDR800 GS Kill worked fine, Along With my 1066.

Well, I run 2x2gb of OCZ hpc 1066 ram and as you can see from the overclock there isn't much problem there. Might grab 4 more.

The ones I linked are DDR800. I'm guessing you got some bad DIMMs; I've had no issues with mine at all and I also have a Gigabyte board (although not the UD3R).
