Recommended Linux config?

I have a lot of spare PC parts and was considering using them to build a Linux box. Can I get an operational system with an AMD K6 300 -or- Duron 600 and a Voodoo3 2000 PCI?

I would need to pick up a motherboard. If the Duron is OK, will the Epox 8KTA work well (VIA chipset)? How about drivers for the Voodoo3?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

One more question,

Does anyone know of any good sites about Linux? I've never used it before, but I am adventurous.

absolutely. You could run linux off a 486 with a cirrus logic card. The hardware requirements are squat. FreeBSD is even better, I run a 4.2 Box on a 486/66 with 8 megs of ram, and 2 1.2 gig Hard drives. This serves as a proxy, FTP server, Samba server, and print server, just fine, piece of cake.
