Recommended Heatsink/Fan for an AMD Duron 1/1.1 ghz?

Hi, i am new to CPUs and all and i need some help. There seems to be so many different kinds of HS/F out there and I don't know what to use for what? I will soon proabably be buying a AMD Duron 1 or 1.1 ghz CPU. I am wondering what would you recommend for a Heatsink/Fan for it. Any help would be really great!

You can buy the CPU in the Retail package (not OEM) and it will come with a heatsink in the package. If you want another suggestion, here's a very nice heatsink/fan unit for a good price: Taisol 760092 and you should pick up some good-quality thermal grease too. That heatsink is good enough for any Duron or any AthlonXP.

edit: also, if you can afford it, and if your motherboard supports it, get an AthlonXP 1700+ instead of a Duron. If you need guidance on whether your motherboard and RAM will work with the AthlonXP, just say what you've got and we can check out the compatibility.

Ok thanks for all the info, i would get an AthlonXP but i checked and the mobo supports only AMD Athlon / Duron ~ 1 ghz. It is not that big of a deal since it is not my primary system. Thanks again 🙂

If your board only supports Athlon/Duron up 1GHz then they are talking about a spitfire core. The Duron 1.1GHz is a morgan core which is based on the palomino. I would check the manufacturer for a bios update. Maybe you can stick a 1600+ or something in there?

I wouldn't use anything but the stock HSF on a Duron.. but if you gotta buy one.. just buy a CoolerMaster OEM style unit... they work FINE and they are inexpensive.... 😀
