If you don't care about performance, try Toshiba 1912. But if you can find the older 1712, it'd be even better.

Give the Asus E616P a try. It has something called Quietrack technology which is supposed to dampen the vibration of CDs spinning at high speeds, including heavily-silkscreened ones.

I'm pretty happy with mine; it's almost as quiet as the old multibeam Kenwood CD ROM drives.

They look like the same thing to me... Order the cheaper one. :) Newegg has been known to screw up a product inventory update here and there.

If you don't mind sacrificing speed for quietness, try running Nero DriveSpeed to change how fast your drive will spin. If you're just playing a movie, you can drop the speed way down for silent operation. :)

I got the Asus today and it is so much quieter then my NEC3500
