Recommended driver version for Radeon HD 4800 series?

I've got a friend who is having some issues with a fresh install of Win7-64 and video playback (WMP or VLC). As I've had problems in the past with my own system and AMD's drivers, I was wondering if anyone out there has a card of this generation (the card in question here is the 4830, but that probably doesn't matter) and wants to say "well, this driver works for me". At the moment it has the 12-2 Catalyst driver.

There is absolutely no reason to use anything but the very latest drivers with these cards.

I'm currently running the 12.4 OpenCL Beta drivers on my 2x 4870x2 setup and 12.3 WHQL on my 2x 4850 setup.

Could you give a bit more detail on the exact problem he is having?

I haven't seen the problem for myself but video playback is allegedly stopping and getting very pixelated.

It could be a lot of things admittedly.
