Hey guys. Was hoping you could help me out here.

Well..i've ordered myself some hardware for a system upgrade and was wondering if you think i have got a decent CPU that should last for quite a while as a top quality one. I still have time to cancel my order because it wont all be shipped until the GPU is released.

Well, this is what i have ordered...

Gainward 256MB GF6800 ULTRA PP U/2600 Golden Sample

Asus P4C800 Deluxe i875P Canterwood 800FSB+USB2+RAID SATA+Gbit Lan+ 6Ch Audio+DDDR400

3.4GHz Intel Pentium® 4 CPU "Northwood" (800FSB) HT 512k Cache *Retail*

You think this is good? Or could i get something better for the same amount of money? (CPU was £305, Motherboard around £120)

Some advice would be great :D

£305 is a *lot* to pay for a CPU. I'd hop back down to the 3.2 or even the 3.0.

Let me put it this way. My two MP Athlon 2800+s were £192 together. (I live in the US so they may be more expensive over there)

The thought of paying $560 for a CPU makes me ill to my stomach. ;)

I have the money available, i just wonder if i could get a better quality or equal quality for the same or less.

If i get the 3.4, do you think i will notice better perfomance than the 3.2 or 3.0?

Just get a 3.0C or 3.2C if you must and OC it. An extra 200-400MHz shouldn't be a problem at all, as long as your cooling is in order.

Would any of you recommend any other types of CPU's which should give me great performance. The whole point of me getting this is so future games should run pretty smooth with all detail maxed out.

I thought about an AMD 64 3400 but i didn't know if they had took off so well. What do you guys/girls think?
