I'm looking for a digital camcorder - any suggestions to a good one? Something under $500. I'm also considering getting a digital camera 3.0 MP and over. But is it better just to use the camcorder for both video and pictures? Thanks for the help all.

most dig camcorders have around 1.5 megapixel for still photos, and most dig cameras have horrible resolutions for their mpeg clips. you have to decide what the majority of the use will be, editing home movies, or photo albums

I like JVC. Sony is good, of course, but too expensive. Some people like Canon. I would stay with those brands. For good deals from a reputable company, check out B&H Photo (www.bhphotovideo.com

I"ve got a Sony TRV10 camcorder and a Sony F707 digital still camera. the camcorder take great movies and not so great stills (640x480) but does in a pinch, and the 707 takes great pics, but so-so movies (320x240) but again it's better than nothing.

I believe some of the newer camcorders have stills up to 1.5 and maybe 2 MP, but I'm not sure on the overall quality tho.
