Hey everyone, thanks for the plethora of good advice.
Veri745- I ran Spybot and it erased some stuff, but my system seems less stable now.
F4Phantom2500- I replaced my old HD with the new 500GB HD because the old one was going bad.
Virtual Larry- I would love to build my own PC, just don't know how. I've looked up a few articles and it seems like a headache. I do have frys close by. Can you give me an idea of what to get? 1tb HD, 4GB Ram, win7 and a dual core processor is what I'm looking to have. Thanks.
Ehume- I ran the disk error check, but when it was done it didn't say anything. I don't notice a difference in performance either. I didn't run the defrag though, running out of day. Probably do tomorrow.
Tweakboy- My Task Manager says I have 33 processes running. Is that a lot? I have attempted to google them and delete unnecessary ones in the past, but it's pretty tedious and don't want to erase something I need. I could probably blow out the dust of my PC, will can air do the trick?
0roo0roo- I returned the 2GB because it DID made my PC run slower. I read a bunch of stuff on web saying that means PC is beyond upgradable. That was my last hope at making the PC run quick again.
Heyheybooboo- I installed HiJacker. I'll run it when I get off to go to bed and post results tomorrow for you to dissect. Thanks.
KonaKona- As stated early above, I'd love to build my own PC, just don't have the confidence that it'll be stable. What do I need to do? I've looked this up before, seems a little daunting. I'm mechanically inclined, just not very computer literate. I'm looking at the Emachines ET1831-07 for about $374. It's in my price range $400-$500 and has the 1TB, Win7, dual core processor and 4MB of ram I'm looking for in a new PC. It got really good ratings. If you can tell me how to build a comprable PC for cheaper from Fry's I'm all ears. I have a Fry's 10 min from me...
RichieRich- That sounds like a great deal, but I'm not a fan of much of anything that's refurbished, especially a PC I hope to have for another 5 yrs. or so.
So basically everyone, my PC is limping along right now. I can't find my XP disk, so I'm out of luck right now for a clean install. I might be able to get one from a friend to try a clean install. My PC's really unstable, my pictures folder always freezes up and when I have to close it the toolbar on the bottom of my PC disappears and I need to restart my PC. Stuff like that is normal daily. Or like yesterday it literally took 4 min for my PC to open a picture to preview from the pictures folder.
I'm really considering getting the Emachines ET1831-07 PC. It has Win7, 4MB RAM, 1TB HD and dual core processor, for under $400, everything I'm looking for. I read great reviews on it and it beats the performance of other pricier PC's. This seems like the best option right now. I may have enough money saved by next month to get it, hopefully I don't throw my PC out the window before then. Any more suggestions are welcome. I"m still trying some things mentioned on here to "fix" this sorry excuse for a PC.
