Recommendations on sound card?

Guys, I'm in the market for a sound card since I just got a new 3 piece speaker system that has a subwoofer 🙂

I'm looking for one that has support for 4 speakers, which makes it 3D sound, since I can use my old ones which are nice Yamaha ones. I liket to keep it under $50 if possible since I just listen to music and games but might eventually do dvd on this puppy. CPU resource isn't an issue since I have a Athlon 700 w/256 mb ram 🙂

Probably will upgrade to Thunderbird later too! Thanks guys.

andylawcc, thx for reminding me. I use Windows2000

I haven't been up-to-date about sound card,
but if someone asked my this 3 months ago, I would say Live Value,
that's all you need. (its under 50 bucks)

if you are a non-conformist and hate big corps, the Aureal SQ2500 would be my recommendation. (however, if you use Win2k, then forget it)

I know that the Sb! Live will work with Win2K, the other option, which I think is more expensive, is the new Videologic SonicFury, which is meant to be better

Guillemot Maxi Gamer...

Based on a YAMAHA sound chip...

A nice alternative to the usual Creative monopoly...

I just bought Turtle Beach's new Santa Cruz sound card. I like this one better then my old SBLive Platinum. I figured out that VideoLogics Sonic Fury is nothing more then a repackaged Santa Cruz. They are the exact same board

I personally will always use SB cards. I have had Aureal and Yamaha based cards in the past and they were just so difficult to get working right. The SBLive I stick in, boot up, and run an exe, reboot and its going.
