It takes so incredably long to get rebates, lose track of what I've submitted and received - software would be handy.

any suggestions ?

there should be a "REBATE TRACKING" thread somewhere on this exact forum you're posting in! so search around for the thread. it's in the hot deals section.

Just use excel. You'll have to update it every time you buy something with a rebate but that takes 5 minutes every week. I'm not so into excel so I just make a notepad file with 6 line entries separated by a line in the form:

Product Name
SKU
Store
Date Purchased
Date Rebate sent out
Date Rebate received

So you'd get things like:

Imation CDR 50-pack
80189
Staples.com
06-25-2001
06-27-2001
not received

Hope this helps.

ps this belongs in off topic forum or How Do I or I wanna thread or even rebate tracking thread :)

you can use my rebate tracker.
It is pretty nice, and you can always make suggestions to me in how to modify the program.

It is web based, so you just enter the info in the web browser, rather than installing software on your computer.

There are a few problems with Rebate Rebate:

1) It doesn't provide OLE links to scanned copies of paperwork. Necessary for disputing rebates from time to time.

2) It doesn't have a print routine for addresses. If I'm going through the trouble of typing the exact address, I should be able to print them out on envelopes.

I've designed a mildly sophisticated Access db which does all of this for me, and it works quite well. I have to proactively run a query for expired rebates, and I have to manually determine 8-10 week due dates, but I'd rather have the trade-off.

At the risk of being branded low-tech, I propose you create a hanging file folder with rebate info placed in it. Real, simple and no freaking application to crowd up your registry.

«) It doesn't provide OLE links to scanned copies of paperwork. »

That would be a nice addition. I type the file name in the Remarks section. All my scans are in a "Rebates Documents" folder so it reduces the effort required to find them but it would be nice if they were actually linked.

«It doesn't have a print routine for addresses. »

There was another rebate shareware program mentioned here once that does that. It wasn't very useful to me though because I use an Internet Postage progam to print my envelopes with postage on the envelope. I like that because the postage log shows the actual date the item was mailed and can be used if there is a dispute about meeting a submission deadline.

What I would like to see in Rebate!Rebate!, would be a subfile of common fulfillment addresses. With so many going to the same 4 or 5 places, the user should be able to just choose from a drop list.

I'd also like to see a better way to handle double rebates.

If you have suggestions for enhancements to Rebate!Rebate!, you should send them to the email address shown in the help file.

I too would like to see improved double rebate format in Rebate Rebate.

For example the handspring visor 2mb deal at staples a while back. It had a staples coupon, a $30 staples rebate, and a $50 handspring rebate. In Rebate Rebate it forces you to make multiple entries so it looks like you bought 2 visors (one with a $30 rebate and the other with the $50 rebate).

Great concept for a program but I keep file folders with all invoices, forms, etc and I scan everything into the comp and create folders on my desktop to store the scans of upcs, forms, receits, etc.

Forget that! I just keep my photocopies of everything I send with all dates and other important notes and info.
