My first custom build. I have an ASUS KV8 Deluxe board and it came with full instructions and CD. I also have WinXP Pro XP2.

Do I just boot off of the Windows cd and just install the OS.........or

Do I follow directions in the ASUS directions and build a boot floppy and install BIOS as they suggest and then go thru that process?

I'm doing it right now so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Rob

If you're using Serial ATA, then you will need either a black cat or a goat, a nearby graveyard and a knife, since you have a K8V Deluxe :)

If you're using nice normal PATA, then just boot from your WinXP CD, install Windows, then install just the Asus network drivers so you can reach the Internet. Now go to VIA's driver page at www.viaarena.com, get the latest 4-in-1 drivers, install them and reboot, then go get your video drivers at ATI or nVidia and install them afterwards.

You could use the drivers Asus shipped on the CD, but why not use the latest ones instead. Once you've got an Internet connection, you can also go to Asus's site for board-specific drivers like SATA, Firewire and an updated NIC driver too. Hope that helps :)

Fortunately I'm using regular PATA. I eventually got it on the network and got to ASUS's website. I used the ASUS drivers that were supplied with the mobo. I'm trying to update the BIOS and having no luck but I'll work on it some more this weekend.

Thanks mechBgon, Rob
