Hi all,

I am moving out of my current apartment on May 23rd and into my new apartment on May 11th. Yes, thats right, 12 day overlap. "Empty house" party is in the works....

but I want to know what to expect from those who have moved before. I am moving to an area I am familiar with (about 20 minutes from my parents and where I grew up) in Northern Jersey (middlesex county, I guess its central but to me all the way down here at exit 30 on the parkway, its northern!)

What have people experienced? Missing friends from the "old place"? Making friends at the "new place"? Hidden fees, unexpected costs, etc. etc...

advice would be appreciated :)

missing friends??? thats part of life pal, you have your own lives but you still keep in touch and see each other when possible. And the time apart makes the times you are together all that much more enjoyable.

making friends - requires being social......do you have the capacity to go out and talk to strangers? if no then your gonna be lonely.

Unexpected costs - hookers for those lonely nights because you cannot bring yourself to go out and talk to strangers.

good luck prepare for a giant dose of reality as real life begins kicking your ass all over.

I have no problems talking to strangers whatsoever. I was in a club the other night. I called my leasing office today, and go figure, the guy who runs the leasing office down here in South Jersey lives in North Jersey, and I asked him flat out if he wanted to get together for lunch or something. TALKING to strangers is NOT a problem for me, my problem is getting myself in a situation where there are strangers.... and that's the hard part of south jersey ... hardly anyone.

Yeah but, its close enough to North Jersey that I can be in North Jersey in twenty minutes!

Yeah, new apartment is nicer, third floor right off 287, parkway, turnpike, and route 1.... but its $1400/month rent, $500 more than I pay now in South Jersey for the same thing...

Remember, it's against the law to pump your own gas in New Jersey ;).

Wow...1400/month?!?!? Do you have roommates? 1400/mo by yourself is brutal. :(

I'd so leave NJ in a heartbeat if I could find cheap housing/rent elsewhere...but well...I still <3 NJ too much to leave. lol.

North Jersey is the worst area in the nation. It absolutely sucks. The area of Jersey City, Elizabeth, Linden, Newark, etc- total garbage.

Yeah I'll be close to Linden.

Why do you say the worst area?

South Plainfield isnt that bad...Just dont go north to Plainfield or North Plainfield. I used to live in North Plainfield, got out of there real fast. Now im in morris county and its awesome. Rent sucks up here but oh well its not so bad. Good luck with the move!

don't ever move to essex county or you'll be raped with taxes.

you could try to invest in living in union county such as clark, westfield, edison or metuchen.

new providence is a nice place though so is berkeley heights.
