Recommendations on laptop for student use

Looking for a laptop for my sister in the 500-600$ range. I mostly build full pcs so haven't been in the notebook market in a while.

It would need an optical drive, probably an i5 as I think an i7 would be overkill. She would prefer a touch screen but in that price range I don't know if it is viable. Another consideration would be to have a big a screen as possible. Weight isn't a concern nor is battery life, to an extent.

I am not familiar with the quality on the different brands that seem to be popular. Asus, Lenovo, HP, Toshiba, Sony, & Dell seem to be the big players but let me know if there are other brands I should consider.

Thanks.

I don't have any specific models to tell you about but generally I look for Lenovo or Asus on my laptop purchases.

Dell seems to overprice everything they pump out nowadays and HP is just horrible
