I just ordered the D-Link DI-713P Wireless Broadband Router (From Amazon) and need to buy a PCI NIC for my computer which will be collocated with the router and also need to buy a wireless PCI NCI for the other computer upstairs which will be the wireless component. I am new to the network game and have no idea as to what I need, What is compatible and what is not, and what the good brand names are that I should be looking for. Also, Cable internet is coming to our neighborhood in the next couple of months and I am considering the Toshiba PCX1100U Cable Modem (is this a good choice or not?). Thanks

Most Client cards are PCMCIA, which work very well with Laptops. For Desktop, it is usually better to use USB Wireless Card. Most PCMCIA Wireless Cards with fixed antenna (stuck behind the PC) yield inferior results versus the Flexible Antenna on a USB module.

Conventional Wisdom* claims that the Orinoco Gold, is one of the best client cards.

When it comes to Wireless your mileage may varied, there are too many environmental variables that are unique to each individual setting.

BTW: Welcome to the 21st Century (gave up the HPNA idea).

Be careful when cable comes don?t get a USB modem, USB Modem can not share through a Router. You need an Ethernet output (RJ-45) on the modem to connect to your shiny new Router
