will be used for gaming (mainly BF2 right now), and most basic applications, internet surfing.

things i will be keeping are dvd writer, hd, case, and monitor. need everything else new.
cpu, mb, ram, vid card, power supply.

i plan on going PCI-E. i know its a pretty tight budget.. overclocking isnt out of the question either.. thanks in advance for any recommendations guys!

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice
Chaintech VNF4 Ultra
Corsair Value Select 1GB (2x512MB)
ATI Radeon X800XL ($250 at Monarch Computers)
Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500

The PSU is a little overkill, but it is an awesome deal and would be able to handle future upgrades.

what are the major differences b/w the chaintech and the dfi lan party the 2nd reply posted? is the only major difference with the venice and winchester the better overclockability factor of the venice?

The DFI is a better overclocker. Both are great boards though. Also the Venice has SSE3.

Monarchs search is retarded. The one I was refering to is now $279 so nvm.

ahh i c, so there is basically no point in getting winchester now.. with most advantages pointing to venice.. even their pricepoints are similar. just wondering cuz the 2nd guy linked to a winchester.

This is the best build, you will not get any better for the price of under $600.00 which includes shipping costs.
Spend the extra $50 on a good PSU if you don't already have a decent one.
