Recommendations for Video in/out? ATI TV Wonder?

Well, I'm tired of waiting for Elsa to ever manufacture more ViVo modules for my GeForce2 card.

I'd like to be able to capture video from my (non-digital) video recorder and maybe do video out to the TV (and certainly be able to edit video and record the results onto tape).

I was in CompUSA today and saw something called the ATI TV Wonder USB (it has to be USB since I'm out of PCI slots). Looks pretty neat, and I *think* it does what I want (hard to tell whether it even does TV out or not), but I'm a little iffy on the performance of these things. Belkin had a similar product.

Can anyone offer any input/advice here?

'preciate it!

Is money a big issue? If not, the Matrox RT2000 is an outstanding vid editing suite, and it comes with MPEG2 support and DVD authoring for when you drop the $995 it'll cost you for the DVD-R. Otherwise compiling from VCR to VCR is flawless, and it has composite and super ins, so it really doesn't care what your source is, or where your outputting. Editing takes a lot of drive space though, and lots of rendering time (even though the majority of the rendering on the RT2000 is in real time, some special effects take eons to render). But to use it you will have to cough up a PCI slot. I made a futile effort to do some vid editing with an ATI Rage Fury Pro VIVO, but even though I had the Super connections, they never worked, and tech support from ATI had no idea how to fix them (they told me to change my motherboard and processor... yeah right) so I can't vouch for ATI.

Wow. Thanks for the reply, but I'm really looking to keep this sub-$100. :) Just some basic home video capture and editing. The ATI reliability seems to be a little iffy, which is why I ask.

Baby's gotta eat. :)

The only thing I know about Belkin is that their stuff seems really cheap (I use a Belkin Hub at work... for shame for shame...) So that makes them one step below ATI for me. If those are your only two real options I say go with the ATI and keep your fingers crossed. Even though the tech support is weak at ATI, I couldn?t tell you if there IS a tech support for Belkin products.

Good luck
