I should be receiving the parts for my new PC next week, the only thing is that I want my girlfriend to be able to use the DSL connection instead of being limited to dial up after everything is set up. Currently I'm on SBC Yahoo and using their regular DSL modem. I've considered getting a regular router, but the distance for the cables is just too far. I currently have a regular phone cord running about 70 feet from the phone jack to my DSL modem. It's not that the distance is that far, it's actually about 10 - 15 feet from my computer to the phone jack, it's just routing the cord along the wall that makes it so long.

I was considering using a USB 2.0 adapter for my computer, but hers (the old one) only has USB 1.1. Also, I was wondering if there would be any problems with the antenna being shielded by the computer case or something. The computer is kind of in a corner, and the routers position will probably be placed about 10 feet away, but it will have to go through an open doorway and a direct line to the computer will be through a wall. My second computer will be placed in the bedroom and will have a similar relative position to the router.

I was also wondering if I'd have any problems with interference from the microwave and phone. I currently have a 2.4 ghz phone.

My main priority is just being able to have a good stable DSL connection on each computer, sharing files between them isn't incredibly important. I've been looking at some of the Linksys 802.11g routers that have been getting good reviews, its just that the Linksys adapters all seem pretty expensive. Would it be possible for me to set this all up for under $100? I saw the deal at staples for the Netgear router for $10 AR but I've been seeing that people have been having a lot of problems with that.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you for your time.

Hmm. Dell sells the Netgear WGR614 for $59: Netgear 614 at Dell.

Staples has it on sale today for $9.99 Hmmm.

May be I should buy from Dell; after all you get what you pay for.

Try to put into the forum's search terms like: Linksys problems, D-Link problems, Netgear problems, etc. You would be surprise this is an equal opportunity problem hardware place No discrimination.

May be this can Help: Wireless What Should I Get?
