Recommendations for PIII 500 ...

My current setup:
P3-500, 256MB PC133, nVidia TNT2 Ultra

I would like to upgrade the video card in the $150 range... I have read people praising both the GF2 Pro and the Kyro II. Has anyone tested both of these on a slower CPU (500mhz and below)? I was leaning towards the Kyro II, but it seems like you only unleash its true power on faster CPU's. Does anyone have a recommendation on these two?

thanks

Go with a GF2 Pro. It will probably ring in just at $150.

I know newegg.com has an MSI GF2 Pro 64MB for fairly cheap. Don't get the 32MB "Pro" though, as it is just a regular GF2 GTS.

The KryoII really needs a FAST CPU to run close to a regular GF2 GTS.

I'd also go for the Pro over the regular GF2 if you can, my GF2 32MB really starts performing well when the RAM gets close to the 400Mhz that the Pro defaults to. Plus with OCin', you can get Ultra performance out of a Pro.

You're wasting your money upgrading your video card since your CPU is weak. I doubt it strains your current video card at all.

A CPU upgrade will be a much better investement.

I think BFG10K has been a bit too strong there. The CPU is not that weak. He will definitely get a very noticeable and effective speed upgrade from upgrading the video card.
But I think BFG is semi-right, you would also get a healthy boost from a new CPU.

Look at it like this though, it will cost you more for a CPU and motherboard upgrade.

is the performance that low with the tnt2U?
you are somewhat cpu limited with the 500 cpu in UT, UT loves cpu power.
a cpu upgrade is a good idea, I had a p3-450 then put a p3-800 in my PC made a huge differents in Ut and some other games.
if your stuck at 500 I don't think a geforce pro would help you much in Ut over a regular geforce card.
I wouldn't rule out a voodoo4 (on a 500 cpu)if you can get one cheap, not much better than a tnt2U overall, but for the games you play it is (glide for UT).
how about finding a good used voodoo5, it wouldn't be much faster than a voodoo4 at low res, but above 1024x768 it will be even on a 500 cpu.
