I'm about 2 weeks from doing a system build (already have most of the parts except the mobo), and am looking for recommendations for an AM2 board that would be the most stable and reliable to consider. It will be running an X2 5200+ with 1GB of Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2 800 with a Western Digital RE-series SATA hard drive and a couple Plextor PATA Burners. It can be ATX or MicroATX. I'll be sticking with WindowsXP Pro 32bit.
It's for a system that will do basic ordinary stuff -- WWW, Office, Accounting software, photos, video. It does need Firewire. Doesn't need to overclock. And I don't have time to game anymore so onboard video is OK, or I'll put in a low-end PCI-E card. But I do daily accounting for 3 business (and inventory for 1) on my PC, so it's gotta be reliable.
I've always been partial to Abit, but they seem strangely absent from many current reviews. I'm about 3 years out of the tech loop, as I'm running an NF7-S (which has been the most reliable system I've ever built). Maybe they aren't as good as they used to be? I've been considering an AN-M2 but am wary of the new and unproven chipset.
I also hold Tyan in high regards for reliability, but they only have one AM2 board and it's over $200.
So if you've had bad experiences, let me know what to avoid. Or tell me what you'd recommend to look for.
