I'm researching a good hub to use for my home network. I would like at least 6 ports, but really no more than 8 is necessary. Stackable is fine.
I'm looking for pretty good to high quality. Any and all recommendations are welcome.

Also, a respectable cat5 cabling manufacturer.

(I already have my NICs)

linksys and netgear both make great stuff. i'd go with an 8 port hub or switch
as far as cat-5 go to homedepot and buy a bigspool of cat5, a crimper and some rj45 ends then make your own.
it may take a couple trys to get them working right, but it'll be worth it
cables without the plugs are much easier to fish through floors and walls
here is an article on how to assemble your own cables

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough. I've bought linksys and netgear products before...but it's
been quite awhile.
I guess what I'm really looking for is someone who has good things to say about a specific
newer product, or even some good (***up to date) reviews. Most of the ones I've found aren't up to date.

TIA,

I also, don't personally have coaxial internet or any DSL variant at this time.
I use dual channel ISDN at home, but at times I would like to be able to use it
to route ADSL traffic.

So you want reviews for routers, switches, and hubs? Good luck. I have two 4 port netgear switches and they work great for me.

There are no significant differences between most of the Entry level Cable/DSL Routers.

Conventional Wisdom claims: The Routing Trinity.

1. Netgear RT314
2. Barricade 7004ABR
3. Linksys BEFSR41

(The above are 4 ports, they have also 8 ports version, same reviews apply).

Some Routers have an additional Printer Server, and DialUp Modem input for backup.

I would choose the one that has the features that fit the way you use the
Internet (and may be it is on sale).

Table comparing these Routers (you don't have to be a member to read these reviews)
