Hi All

Okay, I will soon be buying the Audigy 2 ZS sound card. I have my current SB Live 5.1 hooked up to my Denon Home Theater Surround Receiver which does DD & DTS 5.1 on my Monitor Audio Loud Speakers; so in NO WAY do I need any type of 5.1 PC Speaker setup. Right now I also have a SUPERB, yet simple and very old ( circa Feb. 1996 ) 2 channel PC desktop speakers. These are Yamaha YST-M10 speakers I got with my first ever PC (a P150 that cost me $3200); and the Bass on these speakers is more than one would expect from simple two channel speakers, and very good mids. Yet when it comes to the trebble, it gives out at the very, very top end. Other than that, I'm still impressed at the sound quality after all of these years

So I will budget at least $50 and maybe up to $150 or so. I know that for this price range I can get some good stuff and it seems like they ALL come with a sub? I've looked at/read reviews for

-Logitech Z-340 3 Piece $50 or so w/ $10 rebate. It has 35hz to 20Hz response. Almost everyone on NewEgg gave it universally 5 stars.
-Creative Inspire 2.1 2500 $50 One guy on NewEgg said it had a bigger 'soundstage' than the Z-340's
-JBL CREATURE SPEAKERS for around $90. They definitely look cool, but how do they sound? Those speakers look small, and I wonder if the sound is tiny as well?
-Altec-Lansing 621 These are 2.1's as well, and go for around $115. They got PC Mag. Editor's choice for speakers under $150

Anyone have any recommendations. I'm really have no idea what to get here? I don't want to spend too much, but I want to get the best value for my dollar. So please give me your recommendations/opinions/user experiences.

Thanks.

I just picked up the z340's and they're ok, but I'd look elsewhere. They replaced an old set of altec lansing's that had a separate midrange and tweeter in the sattelites and a wooden sub. The altec's sounded much better, but alas, the left sattelite went out.

I have a set of the Creatives and they aren't bad. Not much to compare them to. Go into Best Buy\Circuit City\Fry's\CompUSSR and test what they have on display.

The Altec Lansings are definately the best speakers in your group. I have both the Logitech Z340 and the altec lansing 621 and the 621 sounds better. They are one of the best 2.1 computer speakers out there (get the kiplisch 2.1 if u want the best).

I love my Klipsch Promedia 2.1's. I was one of the lucky ones to get them for ~80 bucks when Sam Goody was clearancing them out last summer.

I second (or third) the monsoons if you're spending under 100. they are GREAT speakers for the money and the sub rivals my 400watt klipsch 4.1 setup that I bought for 250 a long time ago.

I have Altec Lansing 221 speakers (2.1 sound) I believe these are magic and well priced. They produce good sound, filling a 5x3 meter room really loud. OK they may not be what you are after as they don't have any bass control, but I don't worry about that as the default bass is BRILLIANT, people who correct me would be old people who don't like some good speakers! ;)
