Is it better to get a seperate vid card and then a capture card so you can capture vhs tapes or do you recommend AIW.

Please search; this kind of question gets asked a lot.

Separate cards are generally recommended, but mostly because then you can move the capture card to another system, or upgrade your video card and not lose the video input capability. Also, you can get quite capable software capture cards for $30 (or less), while the premium for a good AIW video card can be higher than that.

Do you think a person needs MCE or do you think just plain xp home would be fine? I know the oem capture cards require MCE but would it be necessary if I didn't get an oem card? Would I lose out on some of the good things that MCE does? I know that some reviews recommend MCE even if you don't have oem. What are your thoughts?

alot alot alot of PVR cards come with software that essentially does exactly what MCE does. Again, do a search, there was just a topic about this yesterday comparing software and capture cards that some people have.
