Recommendations for a T-Amp AC Adapter? (UPDATE)

Hey all,

I just purchased a Sonic Impact T-Amp off of eBay to use with some speakers
and my PC.

Should I just go to Radioshack and buy any adapter, or should I get a specific one?

I was looking into this online and some people said that it would sound way better
with certain adapters. Is this true?

Umm, i don't think it will sound "way better" with certain adapters at all. However you should be careful to select the appropriate adapter according to the power handling of the device. Which version did you get? There is a 5062 and a 5065.

Nevertheless, a 12V 3A rated AC adapter should work.

Something like this comes stock with the 5065 T amp.

I gave my gen 1 t-amp one more shot at working after a lot of intermittent problems with it thinking that my original power supply might have been causing the problems.

I replaced it with http://www.partsexpress.com/pe...fm?&Partnumber=120-536 + http://www.partsexpress.com/pe...D=7&Partnumber=120-537 and all my problems stopped.

I've read stuff about lead-acid batteries and so forth, but I think you probably have bigger things to worry about for sound quality vs. a regular power supply.

I will try my luck with those two items from parts express and tell you guys how it goes.

I received the two items in the mail today that Yoyo suggested.
One of the items is an assortment of mini plugs. Several of them fit snugly
when I plug them into the T Amp. Can I use anyone of the ones that fit or is
there a specific one from the set that I should be using?

OH, and very important: make sure you get the polarity correct. Depending on the direction that you plug in the adapter, you change whether the inside or the outside of the connector is negative (or positive).

I'm at home and my T-amp system is back at work so I can check for sure tomorrow.

EDIT: as for what adapter, it's the larger black one that I'm using, but I don't remember off the top of my head which orientation you need to plug it in to give the correct polarity to the T-amp.

Thanks so much for the help! I am so happy now : )
I kinda just tried all the options until it worked. I got lucky and didn't blow anything out.
Next step is to get a sound card because I'm using on-board sound now. My card blew out a month or two ago and I haven't bought a new one yet...

And these Mission 717s sound so much better than my $20 creative speakers!

I got home the other day and turned everything on. The speakers were humming and the light on the T Amp was very dim.
After trying all the usual plugging an unplugging, I discovered that the power adapter was probably broken. This is because when
I touched the back of it, it burned my finger pretty bad.
I noticed that there is a fuse on the back of it, which I guess maybe has blown.
I was wondering if someone could recommend a less "hardcore" power solution for me. I'm not sure that I need one with fuses,
switches, and various settings. Is there an option that is more standard, like something along the lines of a cell phone charger?

I'm not sure how partsexpress is on customer support, but you might try calling them and seeing what they have to say

I just use a standard ac adapter with mine, one I got off PE. Works well.

I noticed that there are two generic 12V AC Adapters available on PE.
Should I go with a 300mA or a 500mA?

500ma is not enough current. did you call and see if they will replace the one that is not working? also, if you do this, make sure you are using the correct plug, more than one may fit, but only one is correct, this may have lead to the supply overheating.

They have not responded to me regarding the broken unit, but now I am thinking
that it was my fault anyway.
I was not using the black plug that YOyoYOhowsDAjello recommended using, so I probably
blew it out myself.

I'll just re-order the PSU.
