Recommendations for a robust *hardware* parental filtering of home network

HI all!

I'm looking for a router for my home that will monitor and block *all* (or almost all) sites that I deem inappropriate for all computers on my network.

I'm not looking for something that I have to enter in all the sites, but something that... maybe has a continuously updated list or something.

It also needs to actively monitor and send email alerts whenever something questionable is accessed.....

Any ideas?

I have a moderate budget for this...... 🙂

There is No passive blocking through Hardware.

In order to work correctly the Hardware need constant updates.

Unlike software security applications that offer free updates, the Hardware gilters (since it is mainly used by business) is not free, and it based on subscription fee.

Subscription Fee deem it Not popular among end -user.

Not being popular among end-user means lower sale volume, which result in higher subscription fees.

So most people use Software installed on each computer for parental control.

There is even free good filters (example), http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Parental_Filter/pfilter.html

Thanks for the suggestions.

I am most interested in something like this: CensorNet

I was thinking of setting up a small unix box to serve as my router (running smoothwall or something) but, I can't afford $200 a year for a subscription.

Does anyone know of something like this offered in the US for a bit less of a yearly subscription?

Check out DansGuardian. It's a freely-available content filtering solution that runs on top of Squid. You'd have to setup a little Linux box as a gateway/proxy/firewall and use it there.
